the the moon and the sea. (4)

i do not beg the ocean to be kind, i trust
in the justice of its turning, that it will judge
the many, the weak, the law abiding
by other standards, will teach
the great abyss of living, the beauty
of overflowing.

i trust
in the release that waits in drowning, that it will be
painless, easy to manage, will speak
softly and be well-intentioned, will not
force me beyond what i am bearing, will wear
my crown upon its surface, and i will be
both things, the water and my self reflected, and each will know
entirely
the blessings to be had in that reflection.
