Challenges, i've written
disputed sentences, leaving them for dead
when the time comes for dying, i'll go down
just as quiet

knowing i have met my match in numbers, I have
tried my hand at safety, I have
found avenues for forgiveness, arms open
limbs willing

to collapse, and measured by our skin, by our middles, we were thin and barely
substantial, ethereal at fourteen, a passing fancy
of jacketed men confused by our loud voices, taking defense at any odd glance, at any suggestion that we would not pass through life in comfort.

When we give up, let's tie our fingers in knots, in hopes that we can cross those gates together, let's rest in our entanglement, assured that we will live like this forever.
